Center-Fired Burner Case Study
Custom Gas Gun
Enabling 100:1 Turndown
Recent production changes at a major tire manufacturer required maximum boiler operating flexibility and a unique combustion solution as a result. Understanding that boiler cycling is not only highly inefficient, detrimental to equipment longevity, and disruptive to production, an extremely high turndown ratio was required for the plant’s 100 MMBtu/hr natural-gas boiler.
In order to safely extend the existing burner’s thermal turndown from 10:1 down to 100:1 required an auxiliary center fired gas gun lance burner capable of seamless stability between 1 and 10 MMBtu/hr.
Faber Was Asked For A Solution
Faber didn’t just supply a part; we engineered a strategic retrofit. Analyzing the competitor’s burner front, our team designed a custom center fired burner specifically to replace the existing fuel-oil gun. By engineering the burner to match the competitor’s exact mounting dimensions, we created a “drop-in” solution.Once Faber’s submittal drawings were approved, Faber’s manufacturing team fabricated and shipped the custom center fired burner in just a few weeks to meet the customer’s timeline. Upon receipt of the Faber supplied equipment it was quickly installed, with no need for modifications, and successfully commissioned.

Ultra-Low NOx Burner Series
Faber Burner Company announces the development of an innovative patent-pending burner technology: TRINITY .
The Faber TRINITY burner is an ultra-low NOx burner that combines several patent-pending technologies to produce single-digit NOx without the need for catalysts, external flue-gas recirculation, or high excess air.
Engineered with the rugged reliability expected of “Faber Tough” products, TRINITY is designed for a wide range of applications including boilers, heaters, dryers, and process furnaces.
Faber has extensively tested a 4 MMBtu/hr unit that delivers single-digit NOx on natural gas and very low NOx on propane with near-zero CO while operating at 4% O₂. The design is scalable: a 16 MMBtu/hr design is currently under test and larger capacities are planned.

Case Study #240064:
Custom Oil Gun Replacement
A government facility was in need of a replacement oil gun assembly, but the original equipment manufacturer was unable to support their need for replacement parts. So, the customer’s contractor, aware of our reputation for providing replacement combustion solutions, contacted Faber.
Faber worked quickly to collect the required information including necessary dimensions, operating flows, pressures, and oil composition. Using our state-of-the-art computer modeling validated by extensive field-performance data, Faber engineered and designed a customized solution.
Immediately after approval, Faber’s production team began its efforts. Working with the customer’s project manager, Faber delivered an oil gun assembly that seamlessly interfaced with the existing burner. To the customer’s relief and delight, the contractor was able to quickly commission the Faber oil gun assembly.
Faber routinely customizes its equipment to meet customer needs and ensure a smooth and timely project.

FGR RETROFIT: FOR EXISTING BURNER AND BOILER

A customer operating a 60,000 lb/h, 400 psig steam boiler needed a Flue Gas Recirculation (FGR) system to retrofit an existing burner and comply with lower NOx requirements. To avoid months of delay and significant costs in purchasing new equipment, and recognizing Faber’s ability to build custom combustion equipment in a timely manner, the customer turned to Faber. Faber committed to providing drawings within 2 weeks after receipt of the order and ensuring shipment within 6 weeks after release for fabrication.
After award, Faber worked quickly to collect the required information including necessary dimensions, operating flows, pressures, and temperatures. Faber then performed engineering and design and validated that retrofit to the existing combustion air fan and ancillaries. This eliminated the need for the customer to purchase new equipment, which would have required many weeks to deliver.
Because the customer’s equipment was already existing, Faber customized its product to bolt on to the existing fan assembly. Faber supplied the mixing box, fresh air damper, FGR damper, stack scoop, and all flanges and gaskets, and closely coordinated with the customer’s scope of work and parts supply to assemble the completed work and assure a smooth project. The primed and painted parts were shipped ahead of schedule.

Story of a Partnership: Customized Burner
See how we helped a manufacturer achieve faster delivery and seamless implementation.
A manufacturer of industrial water heaters faced significant challenges with their existing burners. Delivery times were excessive, and the burners required modifications that led to additional labor costs and delays. Frustrated with the situation and the vendor’s unwillingness to provide a customized solution, the manufacturer turned to Faber.
Customized Solution Development
After initial discussions, the manufacturer shipped one of their water heaters to Faber’s Lock Haven facility. Faber’s R&D team quickly fabricated a suitable test rig and began developing a customized burner solution. In just sixteen weeks, the customer witnessed a successful demonstration at Faber’s facility.
Successful Implementation
Within four weeks following the successful demonstration, Faber shipped the heater back to the customer along with two production burners. The manufacturer confirmed that the production burners met all specifications. Today, their product line enjoys a fully customized burner that requires no modifications to their heater, and which Faber was able to provide in weeks rather than months.
